Women, Motorcycle and stunts throughout history

Women, motorcycles and stunts throughout history

Representing nearly ten percent of all motorcycle owners worldwide, female riders have remained the fastest growing segment in the two-wheeled marketplace for several years in a row. But being a chick on a bike has not always been quite so socially acceptable – especially when you don't like to play by the rules!

When Margaret Gast made her first attempt at conquering the Monodrome (a.k.a. 'The Wall of Death') back in the early 1900s, no one would have dreamed of sporting the pink leather chaps or high-healed riding boots found in modern motorbike dealerships. In fact, it would not be until the age of disco when a women named Kerry Kleid fought for her right to race that the AMA gave out its first professional license to a female rider. It probably didn't hurt that she had a reputation of being able to wheelie whatever she was riding...

Those pioneering women of motorcycle stunt might just say that girls like Tena "Stunt Blondie" Colbert, JoJo Farmer or Suzanne "Gixxie" Hamilton have it too easy these days. But the truth is, these girls are still raising their front wheels in a largely male dominated sport. And, at least judging by the photos, we don't think they will be taking a back seat anytime soon. For the full chronology of stunt crazy moto-women, head on over to spotmotorcycles.com, and be sure to check out the video of Jessica Maine after the break... apparently gravity has no gender barriers. Thanks for the tip Ken!

Fastest Production Motorcycle

NEW 2011 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer Specification

The production version looks the same as last year’s concept, it appears to only change its name. The motorcycle features a leather strapped chrome tank created using what Moto Guzzi calls an innovative metal particle deposition technology. The red frame was inspired by the earlier V7 Classic models, and is paired with the matching red hubs and swingarm. Technically, the V7 Racer is similar to the V7 Cafe. At the heart of the machine is a 744cc 90-degree V-Twin engine which delivers a slightly disappointing 49hp at 6800 rpm and 40 ft-lb of torque at 3600. Suspension is provided by a 40mm Marzocchi front fork and fully adjustable Bitubo rear shocks. The braking system comes from Brembo, which uses a 320mm disc at the front and a 260mm disc at the back.

Along with the 2011 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200, Piaggio Group unveiled another bike, the 2011 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer. The model pays homage to the classic V7 Sport race bike of the ’70s. The V7 Clubman Racer was initially announced at EICMA show as a 2010 production model but Moto Guzzi’s parent company later said it was a mistake. Well, there’s no mistake this time, the bike enters production as a limited edition model.

Triumph New Models

2010_Triumph_Thuderbird_170.jpg

2010_Triumph_Thunderbird_SE.jpg
Triumph Motorcycles announced six limited edition 2011 models at its recent U.S. Dealer Conference. Included are two versions of its Thunderbird cruiser, including the Thunderbird SE and Thunderbird 1700 – the former featuring touring amenities and the latter coming with the optional big-bore kit standard (pumping displacement up to 1700cc).

Two special editions each for Triumph's Modern Classics and Urban Sport lines are also planned. The Bonneville Sixty is a commemorative edition of the 1960 Bonneville, priced at $8999, of which only 100 will be shipped to North America. The Bonneville T100 Black, as the name suggests, is a blacked out version of the T100, which sports a more retro style than the standard Bonnie, most notably via its wire-spoked wheels.

Speed-Triple-SE.jpg
The Urban Sport line gets a Speed Triple SE, sporting Tornado Red paint and white center stripe, as well as seat cowl and flyscreen ($11,299). The new SE’s are rounded out by the Daytona 675 SE, with white bodywork and blue chassis, along with carbon fiber trim and new graphics overlay ($10,299).
While the addition of more special edition “SE” models continues a trend by the British marque, the boys at Hinckley have plans beyond modest SE tweaks (and higher MSRPs) to existing models. The press release, which also announces the looming sale of Triumph’s 100,000th motorcycle in the 15 years since returning to North America, gives hard numbers for a planned lineup expansion saying:

“Triumph currently offers 16 different models in three motorcycle families: Cruiser, Urban Sport and Modern Classic. That will grow to 23 models across seven motorcycle families by the end of 2012 and include categories where Triumph does not currently compete.”

Daytona-675-SE.jpg

What could those new categories include? A mid-displacement complement to the Tiger has long been rumored, even coming with a name – the Tiger Cub. The British marque is also notoriously bereft of a literbike to match its popular Daytona 675 supersport.

Video: Motorcycle Wheelie Accident… Oops!

Hey buddy! Watch out for that car! “Bang, Crash……wipe out!” Oops, guess this motor cycle wheelie was too busy basking in his own glory to notice the car he was about to crash into. Although it was a fairly graceful plunge, we hope he’s ok. Yikes!

Motorcyclist crosses a bridge in Rio, Greece going 187mph – 300km/h!

If this video’s authentic, I’d definitely have to say that the guy driving this motorcycle has more balls (and less brains..) than a bunch of Corinthian grapes!

Piaggio MP3 -Three wheeler-scooter with two front wheels

zvc2zl Piaggio MP3 Three wheeler scooter with two front wheels

With gas prices hiking up every day, a motorcycle seems like a very attractive idea for our city movements. But what if you don’t want’ to –or- you can’t drive on two wheels? Well, then how about three wheels?

Maybe VW’s GX-3 won’t make it to production, but that doesn’t mean we not going to see another three-wheeler vehicle as Piaggio, worldwide known for the Vespa that went in production in 1946, has unveiled an innovative scooter, that draws very close to that concept. Named “PIAGGIO MP3”, the three-wheeler scooter (with two front wheels), want’s to re-define the very concept of ride stability providing an unprecedented riding experience.

Press Release: Cycle parts
The PIAGGIO MP3 frame in high-tensile steel tubes is the result of the best CAD technology and computerized FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis. Elements such as frame strength and weight were precisely defined and tested from the initial phases of the project, with the suitability of each solution checked at every stage.

The PIAGGIO MP3 uses three 12″ wheels with large tyres – 120/70 front, 130/70 rear. Together with the revolutionary front suspension, the wheels provide a tilt angle of up to 40° while riding like any normal two wheeler and simultaneously ensuring better road grip on any surface, especially slippery tracks. The parallelogram suspension also ensures increased stability at high speeds.
At the rear, the cycle parts feature a singlearm suspension with two dual effect hydraulic shock absorbers, a helicoidal spring and four-position preload.
Besides its exceptional stability, the PIAGGIO MP3 also provides brilliant braking thanks to three powerful linked brakes, 240 mm in diameter, and the parallelogram suspension. The result is record deceleration (about 8 m per second) with braking space reduced by over 20 per cent on normal road surfaces and as much as 24 per cent on slippery roads compared to a traditional two-wheel scooter.
Design
The PIAGGIO MP3 has innovative, eye-catching styling while maintaining a clear resemblance to the Piaggio GT (Gran Turismo) range. The new two-wheel front assembly doesn’t detract in the least from the PIAGGIO MP3′s sleek styling. Its size and proportions are those of a normal compact GT scooter, with an overall front-end width of only 420 mm. As a result, the Piaggio MP3 can be type-approved as a standard two wheeled motorcycle.

The rear loading section has been designed to offer maximum comfort and storage capacity: a boot lid painted the same colour as the bodywork provides access to the under seat storage. A substantial 65-litre storage capacity and dual access to the storage area, from the boot lid as well as by flipping up the seat, make the PIAGGIO MP3extremely practical. The storage area comfortably holds two full-face helmets, a small bag and objects up to a metre in length. The under seat storage also has a courtesy light and a seat cover for use when parking in rainy weather. A handy remote control button on the ignition key opens the seat lock and the rear boot lid.
Comfortable, agile, fun and easy to park: with the PIAGGIO MP3, parking hassles are a thing of the past. Because of its innovative three-wheel concept, the PIAGGIO MP3 is equipped with a revolutionary electro-hydraulic front suspension locking system that keeps the vehicle upright without using the usual central stand (which is, however, also available). The rider simply presses a switch on the handlebar to activate the system that stops the tilt mechanism and park without using the stand. An electro-actuator activates a central clamp on the tilt mechanism and generates hydraulic pressure to lock the suspension dampers.
Once the rider has pressed the handlebar switch, the control unit only activates the electro-actuator if the vehicle is travelling at a speed in the range of 23 kph to 10 kph. The exact speed at which this takes place depends on the level of deceleration: the greater the deceleration, the higher the speed at which the tilt mechanism locks. Additionally, the mechanism will not lock unless the butterfly valve is closed and the engine is running at below 3000 rpm.
To ensure rider safety, the tilt mechanism not only shuts off by pressing the handlebar switch, but is also automatically deactivated if vehicle speed exceeds 15 kph, if the butterfly valve is not fully closed or if engine rpm is higher than 3000.
A lever on the inside of the front shield actions the parking brake, making it safe to park without using the stand even on sloping ground and making it possible to park the two front wheels where there is a height difference of up to 20 cm.
The PIAGGIO MP3 dashboard provides comprehensive, at-a-glance trip information. It includes a speedometer, fuel gauge, cooling liquid temperature indicator, clock and partial and total mileage. Other features are a fuel reserve indicator, oil pressure, turn signals, low and high beam, seat or boot lid open warning and an Immobilizer LED. The rider can open the fuel cap and rear boot lid with a single twist of the key in the ignition unit.
Engines
The Quasar 125 i.e. & 250 i.e. are Piaggio’s new 4-stroke, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engines that meet Euro 3 standards. The PIAGGIO MP3has an exceptional distance range thanks to low fuel consumption by both engines (about 25 km/l) and a sizeable 12-litre fuel tank.

Pit Pass: MotoGP Moto2 Machines - A New Stepping Stone

Motogp Moto2 Machine Right Side

MotoGP's new 600CC four-stroke Moto2 class replaces the two-stroke 250CC GP bikes as the stepping stone to the premier category

The sweetest Grand Prix racing machines ever built are no more. Starting in 2010, the 250cc two-strokes that honed the skills of world champions such as Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey, Freddie Spencer, Valentino Rossi, and Casey Stoner will be replaced by "Moto2" machines, a much cheaper 600cc four-stroke alternative stepping stone to MotoGP. And as much as 250s will be missed, it was clear that they were an anachronism in a changing world.

The Moto2 concept was floated in 2007 at the meeting of the Grand Prix Commission when it became clear that manufacturer support for 250s was cratering. "At this point we reached the stage that we were talking to all the manufacturers via the MSMA about finding a solution for the evolution of the 250 class, so everything was on the table at that point," IRTA Race Director Paul Butler recalls. "Dorna proposed that the next step should be to try to find consensus for 600cc, four-stroke, four-cylinder engines as previously proposed with a common ECU. That single engine proposal was firmed up in Qatar, April '09."
"The Grand Prix commission has the final shout, but obviously it was Dorna, they negotiated," with all the manufacturers, Butler said, of how the choice was made. "But it was offered to all and there were some expressions of interest, but Honda were the only one who were actually ready to nail it." The contract runs for three years. Honda will make a control ECU, which will be monitored by a 2D data-logger that the FIM will have access to. Eskil Suter will make the slipper clutches and Dunlop will supply the tires. On the tire side, only Dunlop and Michelin expressed interest and "in the end," Butler said, "Michelin pulled out. I don't know why. The way that Carmelo (Ezpeleta) told it, they just couldn't
